Miami Valley Track Club season under way

The Miami Valley Track Club of Yellow Springs started its summer season on Monday, May 30th.Practices are weekly on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday evenings at 6pm, at the Yellow Springs High School track. The first meet will be at home on Wednesday, June 8th. The season continues through the end of July.

The Miami Valley Track Club is a youth oriented USATF member club based in Yellow Springs, Ohio, but attracting athletes from as far away as Centerville, Troy, and Springfield. It has been providing the opportunity for young people to participate in the National Junior Olympic programs for Track & Field and Cross Country since 1982.

All track & field events are instructed, as appropriate, for each age group. Age groups start at 8 years of age and are divided into 2 year age groups.

Unlike many traveling programs in basketball and soccer, track & field participation with the Miami Valley TC is only $45 per year, $55 for adults twenty years of age and older.

But it is not just for kids.Many of the club’s athletes have competed at the top level of the sport, including the Olympic Trials. Many others have qualified for and represented the USA as part of the National Team or Junior National Team in international competitions. A large number of the areas top HS athletes have trained with the club over the years, including several of this seasons top HS State meet bound tracksters.

Two club athletes have already qualified for the 2012 Olympic Trials with the hopes of making the London Olympic team. The track club is one of the few recognized centers of excellence in the United States for training in the Olympic Event of Race Walking.

SEASON SCHEDULE:

All meets except the Junior Olympics Meet on June 12th and the Ohio Junior Olympic Championship Meet on June 25 & 26 are open to athletes of any age: kids, HS, collegiate and master men and women. You do not need to be a member of the Miami Valley TC to participate.
