Dance Piazza Saturday June 4, 2011

This week's Dance Piazza will feature Lali Chaves of San Juan, Puerto Rico, who will teach Latin dances, including salsa, merengue and bachata, for the first hour, 7 pm to 8 pm! I, “DJ Juju,” will spin Latin dance tunes (Salsa, Merengue, Bachata, Reggaeton), along with other world dance music including Afro-beat, Bhangra, Middle Eastern, club, old-school R & B and more... Free to all ages.

Lali was born & raised in San Juan, Puerto Rico, with a Caribbean passion. She teaches beginning and intermediate levels of Latin dance to individuals, groups and corporate functions to help create more diversity in communities. Her fun and dynamic style will help you to learn the Latino/Latin rhythms with the confidence of dancing to the beat of the music.

All are on Saturdays - performances begin at 7pm:

JUNE 18 - International Folk Dances with Miami Valley Folk Dancers

JULY 2 - Bhangra (Punjabi Folk Dance) with Karanvir Singh

JULY 16 - Swing Dance with Jill Christie of the Dayton Ballroom Dance Club

AUGUST 6 - Mexican Folk Dance with Nuestro Orgullo youth dance troupe

AUGUST 20 - Flamenco Dance & Guitar with Mariya Tarakanova & Brent Del Bianco of Flamencotalk

SEPTEMBER 3 - West African Drum & Dance with BabaaRitah Clark
SEPTEMBER 17 - Appalachian Clogging & Old Time Music with Rick Good (formerly of Rhythm in Shoes) & Friends

Many of these artists will be traveling from very far, to perform and teach at our Dance Piazza in Yellow Springs this year. Let's show them our appreciation and bring friends, family and neighbors and most importantly, the fearless desire to learn new dances and have fun while doing so :-)

Cultivating community through dance...
