Shaving his personal best in the 800 meter run by over a second, Sam Borchers, now a senior at Penn State, just missed qualifying for the NCAA final in that event by finishing ninth overall in the qualifying heats at the NCAA Championships Wednesday, Go PSU Sports reported yesterday. The first eight runners qualified. Borchers was the Ohio State champion in the mile while at Yellow Springs High School. He was also the Big Ten mile champ as a freshman at PSU.
