Third Weekend Fling in the Springs

Art Stroll and more: Oct. 15-17, 2010

The weekend of Friday-Sunday, Oct. 15-17, will be a great time to invite friends and family to town to sample all that is Yellow Springs.

Friday is the semi-annual Art Stroll, 6-9 p.m. Many shops and galleries in town will be open late with galleries featuring artist receptions. Music, food, and wine will be available for villagers and guests as they stroll through the downtown area.

Friday, Oct. 15

Sam Eckenrode and Eddie Eckenrode's daughter, Miriam, will hold a Grand Opening, 6-9 p.m., for the Eddie Eckenrode Gallery to honor their beloved husband and father who passed away this summer. An exhibition of Eddie’s artwork will be displayed in the newly rededicated gallery located at Sam & Eddie’s Open Books, 232 Xenia Avenue. The Grand Opening is particularly appropriate because Eddie Eckenrode was instrumental in helping Sam and villagers Jocelyn Robinson and Behrle Hubbuch to create the Art Stroll from its beginning in 1996.



“would you, could you” In A Frame, located at 113 Corry Street, will host an Opening Reception, 6-9 p.m., for “Stitch Gasp!” exhibit by local multimedia artist, Jafagirl (“Just Another Flippin’ Artist”) and YS blogger Corrine Bayraktaroglu. The exhibit is intended to elicit gasps of horror and wonder.


The new YSAC Gallery presents an Opening Reception of “Out of My Box: An Exhibition of Extreme Quilting” from 6-9 p.m., featuring multimedia artist Karen Russell. Guest sculptor Sharon Mohler is sharing the exhibit. The gallery is located at 309 Xenia Ave. Enjoy food, wine and entertainment provided by Soul Fire Tribe, Andy Warhol, and Amy Dihrkop and Adam Gueth from Spanish Tony Sanchez!


Village Artisans of Yellow Springs presents a Gallery Opening of “Dare 2B Square,” 6-9 p.m., featuring the work (all on 12”x12” canvas) of over 30 artists. Enjoy live music and refreshments at the gallery at 100 Corry Street.

Beer and & Wine Making Demos at Main Squeeze, 229 Xenia Avenue

Saturday, Oct. 16

Getaways for Women presents “For Couples” Event featuring couples yoga and massage, drum-making, and letterpress workshop. Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 16-17

Yellow Springs Artist’s Studio Tour, 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Eight host artists share their Yellow Springs studio with 11 guest artists. Discover unique jewelry, pottery, sculpture, fiber, paintings, and other handcrafted creations.
