Today, at about 12:30 in the afternoon, a man attempted to rob the US Bank in Yellow Springs. According to Sergeant Thomas Jones of the Yellow Springs Police Department, the man presented a note to a bank teller demanding money. The man displayed no weapon. For some reason, he apparently became frightened and left without taking any money. From the bank, the man ran west on Short Street towards Walnut Street.
No one at the bank was injured and no customers were present. Although the bank reopened at about 3:00, bank employees would not discuss what had happened.
Sergeant Jones described the man as a black male, between 20 and 30 years old, about 5'7" with a medium build. He wore a dark or black coat and a camouflage hat. There is apparently US Bank security video of the man. Sometime thereafter, a man with a similar description successfully robbed an unidentified bank in Springfield.
Two years ago, on March 26, 2009, Dave Mitchell of Springfield successfully robbed the same US Bank in Yellow Springs. Caught several days later, Mr. Mitchell was convicted of that bank robbery and sentenced to a grand total of one year in prison.
