New Arts Council exhibit Aug. 20

The Yellow Springs Arts Council presents People, Places & Things, an exhibition of four outstanding artists and craftsmen from the Dayton and Cincinnati area, curated by YSAC committee member Jessica JH Roller. A Friday Fling opening reception will be held on August 20, 6-9 pm at the YSAC Gallery, 309 Xenia Avenue.

Painter and printmaker Patrick Mauk’s work balances between realism and abstraction. Patrick taught drawing and printmaking at the University of Dayton before joining the Dayton Visual Arts Center in 2005 as the Gallery Manager.

Matt Vant’s photography features images of cityscapes, public spaces, transportation, parks, and bridges taken in Cincinnati, Poland, and Germany among other locations. Having lived 3+ years abroad, Matt has an appreciation for different cultures and takes satisfaction in introducing new views and subjects to new eyes.

John Mason, a Cincinnati artist and president of the Cincinnati Clay Alliance, will exhibit his ceramic boxes. According to Mason, using handmade items in one’s day-to-day life creates intimacy between the craftsman, the material, and the object; provides richness and humility in one’s life; and connects us with those that have come before us and those who will come afterward.

Dayton artist, Tracy McElfresh will exhibit her vintage dress designs. Tracy considers sewing a part of her heritage since it has been passed down two generations from her Puerto Rican grandmother.

Gallery hours are Saturdays, 10-4 pm: August 21 & September 11. For more information contact Jessica@jessicamakesart.com.
