Fifty years of fluoridation recognized
The Ohio Department of Health (ODH) Bureau of Community Health Services (BCHS) will present the Village of Yellow Springs with a certificate of appreciation for 50 + years of water fluoridation at the Water Plant at 10:00 a.m., on Tuesday, August 24, 2010.
ODH will make the presentation on behalf of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the American Dental Association and the Association of State and Territorial Dental Directors.
“The Ohio Department of Health is proud of the Yellow Springs commitment to fluoridation,” said BCHS Chief Dr. Mark Siegal. “Dental care is the number one unmet health care need in Ohio and fluoridation can dramatically reduce tooth decay.”
Yellow Springs began fluoridating in 1959. Since then, water plant personnel have adjusted the natural fluoride level in the water to 1.0 parts per million, the optimal amount for good dental health. People who drink fluoridated water experience up to 40 percent fewer cavities than those who don’t.
Ninety-two percent of Ohioans served by public water systems drink fluoridated water. CDC describes community water fluoridation as one of the 10 great public health achievements of the 20th century.

Virgil,
Is this your attempt to generate some buzz and poke a little fun? If so, I like it. If this is an actual story, I still like it. I hope it is real: I don't think this issue has been masticated adequately to be slurped through a coffee stir.

Truth is always stranger than fiction. This is the real deal!
This is just a way our government uses our tax dollars to get positive press for fluoride and fluoridation.
It's amazing how unelected officials such as the Centers for Disease Control or the American Dental Association is behind fluoridation and we can't vote them out of their jobs.
Wow, I think its great! The Center for Disease Control may know something about disease control. The anti-intellectual approach of this subject is getting old.
The CDC says:“Fluoride works primarily after teeth have erupted…”“The concentration of fluoride in ductal saliva, as it is secreted from salivary glands, is low --- approximately 0.016 parts per million (ppm) in areas where drinking water is fluoridated and 0.006 ppm in nonfluoridated areas.
“This concentration of fluoride is not likely to affect cariogenic activity”
“The prevalence of dental caries in a population is not inversely related to the concentration of fluoride in enamel, and a higher concentration of enamel fluoride is not necessarily more efficacious in preventing dental caries.”
