Professor Hasan Kwame Jeffries, author of Bloody Lowndes: Civil Rights and Black Power in Alabama's Black Belt (2009) will be speaking at the Herndon Gallery at 7:30 on Thursday August 12 as part of Antioch College's ongoing series on Civil Rights Cinema. Professor Jeffries will be discussing his research on the Lowndes County Freedom Organization, the original Black Panther Party, and introducing documentary footage about the early history of the Black Panther Party, including newsreel footage from What We Want, What We Believe: The Black Panther Party Library by Roz Payne. Dr. Jeffries is a Professor of African-American History at the Ohio State University and a Fellow at the Kirwan Institute for the Study of Race and Ethnicity.
