presented by the Yellow Springs Arts Council
Friday, August 17, 2012 (6-9pm)
Location: YS Arts Council Gallery, 111 Corry St.
Carnival of Souls introduces an original collection of figurative art sculptures by Kevin Buntin and Cassandra Graham expressing fantasy, myth, humor and portraiture as well as the outrageous. The Yellow Springs Arts Council Gallery presents a rich, one-of-a-kind palette of characters from August 17 through September 16. The common thread between the works of Graham and Buntin is creating small "souls" to intrigue and delight the viewer.
The YSAC Community Gallery's August Show is unlike any other that we have had this year, and we promise a magical experience for the young and young-at-heart! These artists construct worlds for and stories about their characters to stimulate the imagination. Interact with the artists during weekend open gallery hours (1-4pm) and experience their creative processes.
Join us for the Opening Reception on Friday, August 17 from 6-9pm. Swing to music from the 1920s-1940s with Les Groby on our outdoor patio, and enjoy the company of creative & fun folks. This will be a great evening to experience the fantastic figures crafted by these artists' imaginations.
Kevin Buntin will lead “Harmonizing Unnatural with Natural” – a demo of his unique epoxy clay technique incorporating a profound love of and a special relationship with Nature – on Saturday, September 15 from 2-3pm. Kevin will be using his Gourd Lord line of characters to show how he incorporates natural found items into his art dolls, encapsulating the essences of those elements and conveying the “spirit” of his figures. This is a free YSAC Community Gallery event.
Go to www.facebook.com/YellowSpringsArtsCouncil for more details. The YSAC Community Gallery is now open from Wednesday to Sunday (1-4pm), except during the third week of each month.
