WYSO to air “Radio Rounds”

On Sunday, September 11, public radio station 91.3 WYSO will begin airing Radio Rounds, a program produced and hosted by Wright State University students at the Boonshoft School of Medicine.

“Radio Rounds” was founded in 2009 with the aim of exploring different perspectives in medicine. Guests include physicians, patients, authors, students and health-care leaders. Guests have included Pulitzer Prize winners Trady Kidder and Margaret Edson, acclaimed authors such as Samual Shem (The House of God), Lisa Sanders (technical adviser to the television show “House MD”), physicians working for NASA, the NBA’s Miami Heat and the World Health Organization, among others.

The show’s creator, Avash Kalrain his final year of medical school, says “The topics we discuss on “Radio Rounds” – global health, policy, patient experiences, organ donation and so on – these are topics we think are interesting for a wide audience.”

WYSO general manager Neenah Ellis says, “Radio Rounds” is an engaging radio program. The medical students’ honest curiosity is refreshing. They are often asking the same questions I’d have. It’s not a program full of medical jargon. It’s accessible. I think WYSO listeners will appreciate the fact that it’s produced locally.”

WYSO 91.3 FM will air Radio Rounds on Sunday nights at midnight. Radio Rounds began on the Wright State station, WWSU-FM. The program is streamed on-line at www.RadioRounds.org and offers podcasts on iTunes. WYSO will also stream the program live and offer podcasts on www.wyso.org.
