WYSO Remembers The Events Of 9/11

A Clear Day In September

Public radio station 91. 3 WYSO is preparing an hour-long program that will reach into its archives to highlight stories and voices from 9/11. Former News Director, Aileen Leblanc, worked at the station at the time. Her reports and her commentary from that week will be featured in the special.

Then, WYSO moves ahead ten years. The WYSO news team has interviewed people in the Miami Valley to find out the lasting impact of the events of 9/11. A member of the Ohio Task Force shares his story about going to Ground Zero hours after the attacks, a family speaks about the loss of their daughter who was a flight attendant on one of the planes that hit the Twin Towers, and a high school teacher reflects on the lessons learned in the last decade.

“The 9/11 attacks were a national tragedy, but it was a local experience, too,” says Emily McCord, WYSO News Director. “WYSO wants to bring those local stories and memories to the forefront.”

General Manager Neenah Ellis said it’s a chance for WYSO to take part in a national discussion. “All over the country, Americans will be considering how 9/11 changed their lives. We wanted to put that spotlight on the Miami Valley.”

“A Clear Day in September” will air Friday, September 9th at 7 p.m. and on September 11th at 6:00 and 11:00 p.m.

WYSO 91.3 is licensed to Antioch University and serves twelve counties in the Miami Valley region with their FM signal. Their website streams programs 24 hours a day. "A Clear Day In September” will be available on the WYSO website: www.wyso.org.
