Fling weekend coming up

If it’s a third weekend, it’s a Fling in the Springs with special events and activities all weekend. Many shops and galleries extend their regular hours on Friday and will be open all weekend. The theme of the weekend is highlighted with several festivals and tours focusing on farm, food and handmade goods.

On Friday September 16, shops and galleries will be open late. Enjoy black bean nachos at Current Cuisine or stop by Ye Olde Trail Tavern for food, drink and the great sounds of DJ Clean Gene. Emporium Wines hosts their weekly wine tasting with live music from 6:30-10. Or you can see a great movie at the Little Art Theatre. And for those wanting entertainment later into the evening, Peach’s Grill will have Noah Wotherspoon Friday and Dr. Meat on Saturday starting at 10.

The Cyclops Festival features tons of handmade vendors including apparel, jewelry, paper goods, accessories, kids, home and more. The first 150 attendees who purchase an item from a handmade vendor get a swag bag filled with great items. Food, kids’ activities, street art demos and great music complete the day. This free event is Saturday only at the Bryan Center at 100 Dayton St. from 10 am to 7 pm.

The Midwest Festival of Fibers presents A Wool Gathering at Young’s Dairy Saturday and Sunday featuring fiber animals, artists who use the fibers in creative ways, demonstrations and live music. Hours are Saturday 10-7 and Sunday 10-5 and the event is free.

Also enjoy farm tours hosted by Tecumseh Land Trust to three area farms. Call 937-767-9490 for more information and to make reservations.
