FCC pours cold water on park swap idea

In a letter to the editor published in today's Yellow Springs News, Friends Health Care Association President Mary White wrote that the exchange of Beatty-Hughes Park for the Barr Property is not feasible for a number of reasons, one of which is the money already spent by the Friends Care Community for designs specific to the Barr property. She also said that "the proposed exchange has considerable merit."

This letter gives new importance to the poll being conducted in the Blog's sidebar. However you may feel about this idea, you should express it by voting in the poll. If it turns out that there is overwhelming community support for the idea of a swap, Friends Care should be made aware of it. If not, we should all know that, too.

As I said in a previous comment, it is not reasonable to expect Friends' to bear the expense of repeating the design and planning work they have already paid for for the Barr site. If the "swap" somehow turns out to be possible, the plan must include reimbursement to Friends' for the added expenditure. As I have also said previously, this is private property, the use of which is not a community decision. Friends' listened to considerable public input on their plan while going through the PUD process, and has respectfully responded to the "swap" idea. We don't have the right to expect more than that. We certainly are not entitled to vote on it. Anyone who doesn't have a plan for paying Friends' for the additional expenses of the "swap" idea should stop bugging them about it.

Les has made an excellent point. The only thing that matters about any of this is money. I do not intend to donate to the FCC and that is all the vote I can have.

It's not just about the money. From what Mark Cundiff said, it would be very difficult to do anything with Hughes Beatty Park besides it's current use because of legal restrictions. What is it about the word no that is not being understood?

Go back and scroll to "Reader Research on Property Swap Issues". It has the accurate information taken from the deed itself.
