Dr. Kress founded the Glen Helen Raptor Center 40 years ago and later achieved international recognition for his work restoring Atlantic Puffin populations in the United States. His groundbreaking conservation methods are featured in the cover story of the June 2010 issue of Smithsonian magazine. (View the feature article here: http://www.smithsonianmag.com/science-nature/A-Puffin-Comeback.html) Dr Kress will be speaking at the Glen Helen Building Auditorium, 405 Corry St. in Yellow Springs on July 3 at 7:30 pm. The talk is free and open to all.
The Glen Helen Association, which is planning the event, is an all-volunteer organization formed in 1960 when a group of concerned citizens banded together to protect the 1000-acre Glen Helen Nature Preserve from a highway bypass and sewer line.
Today, the Glen Helen Association and its volunteers continue to protect the Glen through land preservation, fundraising events and educational programs. The Association has planned a series of activities, exhibits, lectures and hikes on July 2 – 4 to commemorate this important anniversary.
