Rainbow Rumpus editor to speak at Rockford Chapel 6/21

Join Rainbow Rumpus publisher Laura Matanah for an hour of fun and learning about Rainbow Rumpus’s work with lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender headed families. Laura is the daughter of Alice Robrish, a Yellow Springs resident. The event will take place at the Rockford Chapel, 515 President St., in Yellow Springs on Monday June 21st at 7p.m. Laura will begin the hour by reading from one of Rainbow Rumpus’s new printable picture books, Ta Cumba Goes By Himself. Adults and elementary aged children will enjoy this amusing story about a boy visiting a restaurant with his fathers and heading to the bathroom by himself for the first time. There will then be outdoor activities for children while Laura gives the adults in attendance more information about Rainbow Rumpus and the organization’s plans to build a sister site for teens, Rainbow Riot.

“Rainbow Rumpus has received a tremendous amount of support from the Yellow Springs community at large, and the Yellow Springs Friends Meeting in particular,” said Laura Matanah. “All of our board members and volunteers are deeply grateful. I’m looking forward to letting folks know how much they’ve helped us to accomplish, and what our plans for the future are. I hope that everyone with an interest in making our communities more welcoming for LGBT-headed families is able to join us.”

Every child in attendance will receive a Rainbow Rumpus dragon tattoo. Free posters for educators and librarians will be available as well.

Rainbow Rumpus is the world‘s only online literary magazine for children and youth with lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) parents. The organization’s website, www.rainbowrumpus.org, provides a safe, fun, and empowering place for young people to create and enjoy art, break through isolation, build community, and take action to make the world a better place.
