Food Pantry: The cupboard is bare

The Yellow Springs Community Food Pantry could use your help in meeting the growing need for food assistance. The Pantry is open 2 days a month in the basement of the Methodist Church at 202 S. Winter Street. Right now the shelves are almost empty so any non-perishable food (please check the expiration dates) and paper products would be appreciated.

Donations can be dropped off at the church Winter St. entrance from 9AM-Noon on Tues thru Thurs. You can also make a cash donation by sending a check to the YSUMC Food Pantry and we’ll do the shopping for you.

Call the church at 767-7560 if you have questions. Thanks for your continuing support.

I had to visit the Food Pantry for the first time; there was a long line. I guess I didn' realize how many of us there were. I imagine some were in the same boat as my family; just over barely the limit to qualify for food stamps, yet due to the expenses of rent, utilities, etc. here in YS, can't afford food after paying the bills. That's happened to us the past 3 paychecks...

Paper products cannot be purchased with food stamps and the pantry is nearly out of these as well. Non-food items (toilet paper, soap, laundry detergent, toothpaste, etc) are also needed. Please be generous but remember when donating food items that might have an expiration date that the food pantry cannot safely use these items even though they might still be good.
