Information on land recently bid on by the Village

On Thursday, Oct. 18, the Village had the winning bid on the old grain elevator site. Judging from information gleaned from the Greene County Recorder's files, at $170k, the village is paying a fair price for the lot at 102 Dayton (aka 350 Railroad St.). However, we will be losing $4,215.44 per year in real estate taxes, as this parcel will be off the tax rolls after the sale closes.

invenur uSince we, the villagers, will be losing over $4000./yr on this property unless it is developed into a money earning enterprise, one can only wonder why this Council chose to purchase it when only last year we, the villagers, were asked to ante up for more taxes.

Can anyone shed some light on this purchase?

That lost tax revenue is just about the same amount as the yearly salary for Council members. Perhaps one of them would like to donate their salary back to the Village to make up the difference.

It is of concern that the property was purchased with money from the electricity fund. The Village Manager and Council have expressed concern about the loss of revenue from local owners of solar panels, including Antioch College. Perhaps the Village should consider spending the electricity fund money for solar panels, the electricity from which they can sell to the village consumers, and get a return on the investment instead of buying property and taking it off the tax rolls. Are we a green village, or not?
