YSHS Orchestra preparing for 2011 International Music Festival

The YSHS Orchestra sent a recording of our May 21 concert to the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. to audition for their 2011 International Music Festival (Bands, Orchestras, Choirs). The strategy was to encourage the orchestra to continue to be detail oriented through our last concert and do something slightly dangerous like putting a recording of us in the ears of experts far away. The students were expecting to hear they were on the right track... "but here are the things you need to work on to be ready for a festival like this". To our surprise and delight we were selected and invited! It is a five performance festival April 15-19, 2011. The graduating seniors are credited for getting us there and next year's orchestra is ecstatic to live the legacy they leave us with!

There is a strong interest in Private Lessons, especially now with the Kennedy Center opportunity. For anyone interested in teaching violin, viola, cello, and bass lessons (or knows someone who would be interested), please contact me at ahofamily@sbcglobal.net.

Our students are developing a special reputation befitting Yellow Springs, their special place. Watch for future posts! We promise to keep you informed of the plans and events that will get us to the Kennedy Center!

For the YSHS Orchestra,
Dr. Eric Aho
