Annual swap brings together plants, books, friends

by Susan Gartner

Maxine's Annual Plant & Book Swap on Sunday, June 6th, attracted a wide variety of people, plants, snacks, books, and garden hats.

"Thank you to everyone for participating and I look forward to doing it again next year!" says Maxine Skuba, pictured in green flowered hat and grateful for the cooperation of the weather after a rainy morning.

Local author and swap participant Cheryl Meyer was thrilled to see her 2001 book, "Mothers Who Kill Their Children" on Skuba's used book table and happily signed it for an appreciative new owner. In a festive red hat and scarf on loan from the hostess, that's me sampling a tasty (and theme-appropriate) dandelion wine that was brought by another guest.

"Everybody went away happy," said Skuba, as she packed up boxes of leftover books the next morning. The books will be donated to the Planned Parenthood Annual Book Sale.
