Camping out

Shaun Webb and his 18' teepee.

The smoke hole keeps most of the rain out.

Poles at the rear of the teepee are used to
adjust the position and size of the smoke hole.

When Shaun Webb comes visiting, he comes prepared. Webb, formerly of Yellow Springs and now a resident of Iowa City, Iowa, is visiting his sister and brother-in-law, Paula and Jerry Womacks this week. He pitched his 18 foot canvas teepee in their backyard.

He was in the tent through that heavy rain we had last night and was quite comfortable, he said in an interview this morning. The hole at the top of the teepee, there to vent smoke from the campfire, can be adjusted to minimize the effects of wind and rain. What rain that does get in, falls right in the center of the teepee and has no effect on the bedding, which is off to one side.

Webb will be off to Canada for some camping and fishing, later in the week.
