New comment on old post prompts poll

CT posted a comment on Art or Annoyance: Fear and Loathing in Yellow Springs regarding the barbecue that operates on the BP Lot on weekends. In an effort to find out what readers think about this, I have placed a poll at the top of the sidebar. Your participation will be greatly appreciated.

I think safety is more important. The issue's on your current pole, mentions no aspect of pulling your car into BP with the big space they are taking up with their food carts and trucks.

Add that to the tables upon tables of items for sale from the occasional other vendors that 'rent parking spaces' on the other side of BP next to the stain glass store. I've found it very dangerous to even pull into BP some days when other cars are trying to get out. I've seen many accidents there almost happen!

This isn't a matter of renting 'outlots'... It has to be an issue of safety and possibly a code issue. For a business to be built, it's required to have so many parking spaces, or council doesn't approve it. This flies out the window when every inch of BP is set up for 'day rent vendors.

How can they park their barbecue in a marked 'no parking zone'?

The yellow marked lines are there so people can safely have enough room to get in and out.

*Who enforces codes for our village, that is who we should ask. Safety should be number one, are they violating safety codes or are they violating our village code by doing this? Does anyone know?

While we are talking safety, is it safe to have an open-pit barbecue next to fuel pumps and sitting virtually on top of gasloine tanks? That seems like a recipe for one hell of an explosion.

And remember, this is private property. BP's owners put the "no parking" sign there, not the village, and they can give permission to the BBQ to set up there.

And about safety: the fuel tanks are on the opposite end of the lot, about seventy feet away from the BBQ. But in any case, if Anonymous thinks underground fuel tanks can be ignited and explode from a contained flame nearby, he's been watching too many action movies. I can't imagine how the flame in the grill could ever come in contact with gasoline at the pumps.

I've seen the vendor on the other side take every single parking place BP has for his tables of purses and t-shirts. It's just not safe to get in and out with your car on the weekends!

I say it's not safe too!
