On Sunday May 12, 2013 at 2:00 in the Senior Citizen Great Room Lynn
McConville, YS High School class of 1975, will be presenting a talk on
Power Up Gambia, a non-profit program that supplies hospitals and
clinics in Africa with solar power.
In many parts of Africa, hospitals have no reliable electricity. With only sporadic electricity the incubators, oxygen pumps, lights, and
refrigerators often did not run at all. Vaccines and medicine spoiled, infants died soon after birth and emergency operations were performed by candlelight. Power Up Gambia has been able to gather enough support to bring solar power to two hospitals and a clinic in Gambia.
As Executive Director, Lynn McConville travels several times a year to Africa to install solar panels, train locals in their use and monitor the results. She and her husband also maintain solar panels in the their home.
Light refreshments will be served following the talk.
