Fling weekend coming up to kick off holiday season

Plan a holiday of new traditions at the 3rd Weekend Fling in the Springs beginning Friday, November 16.  Start your holiday shopping off the beaten path with later shopping hours on Friday at local shops and galleries.  And enjoy free horse-drawn wagon rides around town starting in front of the Little Art Theatre from 6 to 9 pm.

Shops open late include Asanda Imports celebrating their 4th Anniversary with refreshments and great new merchandise.  Urban Handmade is having an Open House where you can get a $10 gift card for each $50 purchase.    Sam & Eddie’s Open Books is celebrating their beautiful new location in Kings Yard.   And of course, Mr. Fub’s Party “Toys & More” should be on every holiday shopping itinerary.

Stop by the YS Arts Council at 111 Corry St. for “Reincarnated: The New Forever Life of Plastic Trash.   While there, you can make a special ornament for the Downtown Tree Trimming Extravaganza.  Or bring your own ornament to share with Yellow Springs.

Entertainment for the evening includes wine tasting and live blues from Gary Arnold and Stone Cold Soup at The Emporium starting at 6:30, moving over to Peach’s at 10 for Emma Woodruff & the Ruffians.   Or you can take in the movie at Little Art Theatre.

We will also be kicking off the Shopper’s Reward Basket Giveaway on Friday night where every purchase in participating stores gives you a chance to win a gift basket filled worth $250.  The contest lasts throughout the holiday season giving you many more chances to enter.

Give the gift of art by stopping by a brand new juried art fair, Art & Soul:  A YS Art Fair, an intimate show with 29 artists from the region displaying and selling their hand made fine art and fine craft.   Hours are Saturday from 10 am to 5 pm at Mills Lawn School at 200 S. Walnut St .  All downtown shops will also be open both days along with 15 eateries for a quick bite or leisurely lunch.
