Cundiff looking for new job

The Sidney Daily News reported Wednesday that Yellow Springs Village Manager Marc Cundiff is one of five finalists for the City Manager job in Sidney, Ohio. Cundiff was the City Planner in nearby Troy before taking the Village Manager job in Yellow Springs in 2008. This move comes as Yellow Springs is shaking up staff positions by adding an Assistant Village manager and eliminating the Economic Sustainability Coordinator and Planning Assistant posts.

Reached by email for a quote, Village Council Member Karen Wintrow wrote, "Mark worked in Sidney and served as the interim manager early in his career. Both of his children were born there and his son considers it his hometown. There is a great deal of history, close friends and a strong connection there."

I noticed that in the last few council meetings he did seem tired and discouraged. He seems like a nice guy, hope he finds a position better than this.

Perhaps the reorganization should not occur until the Sidney decision is made. This coming year the police chief will retire, and the village council/manager has decided to loose two others in an reorganization, plus a new hire for an assistant; and very likely there will be a "new" person on council - it just does not seem prudent to make these changes until more is known about Cundiff's job. Plus, if he's looking, he's not committed to staying, he's committed to leaving. Let's hold off.
