Bahnsen photos in new collection


The Yellow Springs Historical Society invites the public to the announcement of a new volume of local photographer Axel Bahnsen’s selected works.

The program will be held September 19 at 2 p.m. in the meeting room of the Senior Citizens Center. Refreshments will be served.

The book was underwritten by Axel Bahnsen’s daughter Elaine Bahnsen Brown, the Yellow Springs Community Foundation and the Yellow Springs Historical Society

Among those expected to be present will be author Paul R Cooper, Elaine Bahnsen Brown, consultant Nancy Koehler, photo professor Dennie Eagleson, Antiochianna advisor Nina Myatt, Dawne Dewey, Head of Special Collections at Wright State University, book designer Jane Baker.

Selections from the Bahnsen collection of original Axel Bahnsen salon prints from the Wright State collection will be on view.

Axel Bahnsen gained recognition in England at the early age of 22 when he was selected youngest member of the Royal Society of Photography. He established his studio in Yellow Springs by doing portraits of Antioch College and Yellow Springs High School students. His final legacy is thousands of photos of local persons and award winning photos in competitions around the world.

The volume was produced with generous support from Elaine Bahnsen Brown, the Yellow Springs Community Foundation, the Yellow Springs Historical Society and others.
