Sustainability at Sterling College

Annie Reichert, Antioch College class of 2006 to speak

On Tuesday, August 28, at 7:30 p.m. at Antioch College in McGregor 113, Annie Reichert will speak about her experience attending Vermont’s Table, an intensive five-week course in sustainable food production at Sterling College in Craftsbury Commons, Vermont. (Notable for the Antioch community, Mathew Derr, interim president of Antioch College from 2009 to 2011, will serve as Sterling College’s next president.)

Reichert has been developing an interest in food production and experience in a small business operation while living in New York City for the past few years. While at Sterling College, she is learning about the economics of farming practices and how to work with draft horses, and make cheeses and bread. Sterling College produces most of their food, or sources it locally as much as possible, and teaches the use of farming with draft horses, among other things. Sustainability is a very high goal, and Reichert reports that the students are very hard workers.
