MTFR rescues woman in Glen

Service, Safety, Dedication, Professionalism & Diversity

A 23-year old woman was rescued from the base of a cliff in Glen Helen Nature Preserve after falling several feet. Miami Township Fire-Rescue personnel, along with Greene County Sheriff Deputies were dispatched at 7:11 pm Tuesday.

The woman slipped while moving between trails near the Cascades waterfall inside Glen Helen, falling down a steep grade. Deputies and paramedics made their way to the patient and began treating her while members of Miami Township’s Special Response Team set up a low-angle rope rescue hauling system. The patient was removed from the area in a rescue basket, and carefully brought up a steep hillside utilizing ropes.

The patient was rescued after just over one hour and was transported in stable condition to the trauma center at Greene Memorial Hospital. The patient suffered injuries to her leg in the fall. Fire department personnel remind the public that leaving marked trails in Glen Helen is prohibited.

These incidents seem to be happening more often lately in the Glen and Bryan Park. I don't have a guess as to why. As far as I know, there's been no sudden increase in the number of visitors.
