A free introduction to Mary Sinclair's ongoing workshops and classes at Yoga Springs, based on the practice of Balance®, will take place on Saturday, July 10, 6-8 p.m. at Emporium Wines/Underdog CafĂ©. All are welcome and encouraged to attend; no yoga experience is necessary. Balance® training aligns your bones with gravity so that your muscles can be in maximum relaxation. It’s based on 35 years of studying healthy populations from all over the world -- people who remain active into their old age without back pain or hunched posture. When you learn to sit, stand, and move as they do, your pain will be significantly reduced or eliminated, and your comfort, agility, and strength increased. A certified Balance® teacher since 2006, Mary Sinclair continues to train under Jean Couch, founder of the Balance® Center in California. Mary also has a strong training practice with Noelle Perez Christiaens of Institute d'Aplomb in Paris. Noelle is the original researcher and founder of the practice of Balance®.

This is what Vanessa Query of Emporium/Little Art Theatre/YS News fame has to say about the workshop:

“About 80% of people in the Western industrial world have back pain/problems, while about 20% of those in developing/pre-industrial countries do. We walk, stand, sit, move, etc. vastly differently from folks in developing/pre-industrial countries. This difference is marked by bad posture, imbalance, pressure on the spine and muscles in all the wrong places. All babies and toddlers instinctively carry themselves more in "balance" (in fact, more like people of all ages in developing/pre-industrial countries) until they reach the age of picking up the habits of the adults around them.

“I could go on and on about it. It's amazing stuff. This workshop is an introduction to the theory/practice (with a mind-blowing slideshow illustrating all this with photographic evidence), and the beginnings of learning how to be more conscious of our posture and how to change how we walk, stand, sit, move, etc. Back pain goes away and is replaced by a lovely new awareness of your body and its movements. It's kind of like self-done chiropractic.

”The workshop will be taught by Mary Sinclair, of whom I have become an adamant groupie. Mary teaches yoga in Columbus. In addition to wonderful workshop material, she is a joy to be around. She'll also be doing a follow-up series of classes at Yoga Springs for those of you who may get hooked like I did.”
