Historical Society seeking input

The Yellow Springs Historical Society will be holding a special public meeting on April 24 at 7:00 p.m. in Room 103 of McGregor Hall, Antioch College. Purpose: to brainstorm about the feasibility of a museum and/or research center for the growing holdings of the Yellow Springs Historical Society. Everyone with an interest in Yellow Springs history is welcome!

As the recent experience of the Arts Center effort showed, Yellow Springs is pretty much tapped out as far as being able to support any new social institutions requiring local money is concerned. It would be a mistake for the Historical Society to try to raise funds and take on ongoing expenses for something like this at this time—there's just too many non-profits depending on villagers already. If they just need space to store their collection, Antioch seems to have a lot of room in their buildings they're not using.

As for a "research center"—why does that need to be a physical location in the Information Age? Why not put together a good data base of historical information and images that would be easy to access? There's so much information like that scattered around town in different collections and libraries. It would be wonderful to be able to find it all online in one place.
