Earth and Art focus of 3rd Friday Fling

Third Friday Fling in the Springs, April 16

At “would you, could you” In A Frame see the exhibit of pastel and watercolor of gardener Ann Gayek aptly titled “Flowers & Gardens” from 6-9 pm. Visual artist-educator Nevin Mercede will present her exhibit, “20 degrees North, 50 degrees East,” at an opening reception at The Art Space at 108 Dayton Street. Also on Dayton St., Brother Bear’s is hosting an Open Mic night and just a block north at Corner Cone, you can hear live music and enjoy great food and ice cream.

Over on Xenia Avenue, enjoy great food at Current Cuisine, Ye Olde Trail Tavern or The Wind’s Café to name just a few of the culinary offerings. Main Squeeze is featuring craft beer tasting and beer making demos. Don’t miss The Emporium featuring DJ Dr. Falafel and wine tasting from 6:30 until 10. For those wanting entertainment later into the evening, Peach’s Grill hosts live music both Friday and Saturday starting at 10.

There is always something interesting to see at a Yellow Springs Community Dance Concert where dancers and choreographers from 5 to 50+ years spin, fly, slide, twirl hoops, jiggle coined hips, and act like a backpack. It takes place in the South Gym of Antioch College Campus at 8 pm Friday and Saturday. Tickets are purchased at the door, $8 for adults and $5 for students and seniors.

Celebrate Earth Day early at Glen Helen by joining in a Wild Edible and Useful Plants Hike on Saturday to look at the many uses of plants found along the way. On Sunday starting at 2, tour the Raptor Center and see a red-tailed hawk and a red-shouldered hawk released.

Yellow Springs always offers unique shopping at over 50 boutiques, shops and galleries.
