A Call for Artists and Presenters

Yellow Springs Summer Experience 2010: 10 Days of Arts & Culture

The Yellow Springs Arts Council (YSAC) has become part of an exciting partnership of arts, cultural, educational, and non-profit organizations in Yellow Springs. Together we are planning a Chautauqua-like series of revenue generating arts and cultural workshops, and events in Yellow Springs this summer from July 8-18, 2010. It will be marketed to audiences and participants in the region and beyond who will come and stay in the area.

Artists and presenters are invited to propose offerings of classes, workshops, private lessons, or performances for a fee to the general public, or a specific target market. These events will be offered to children and adults; mornings, afternoons and evenings. Offerings can last one to three hours per day, and span several days. Artists and other cultural presenters are invited to submit their proposals to present and/or facilitate one or more workshops. The experiences should be in-depth, hands-on and can include a variety of ways to interact, discuss, learn, and enjoy the arts and culture.

Revenue Model. Classes, workshops, or lessons will be priced as a per person charge to participants, set by artists and the YSAC. After any space costs or technical needs are deducted from the proceeds, the revenue will be split 50/50 between the YSAC and the artists. The revenue share to the YSAC will offset management of the event series, promotional and logistical coordination, registration, housing coordination, planning and development costs. While we are seeking start-up funding for this first year, we need net income to provide start-up funds for next year.

Sponsoring Organizations: Antioch College, Antioch McGregor, Glen Helen, WYSO, Yellow Springs Chamber of Commerce, Tecumseh Land Trust, Nonstop Institute, YSKP, Little Art Theatre, Antioch Writers Workshop and the Center for the Arts Steering Committee.

Artists/Presenters are asked to submit their proposals by April 23 via mail to PO Box 459, Yellow Springs, OH 45387 or via email to ysarts@ysartscouncil.org.

Proposals need to include:
  • Title of activity
  • Category of activity
  • Age range, novice or experienced participants
  • Length of time and days desired
  • Description of activities and goals of the experience for participants. These should be in-depth experiences.
  • Venue needed or place of activity.
  • Short bio of the artist and some pictures or references pertaining to the artist's work or qualifications.
  • Suggested per person charge

If they have so many sponsoring organizations then why are the YSAC expecting the artists to pay for the whole thing? After space costs and other expenses are deducted from the proceeds any left over profits will be then SPLIT 50/50 with the YSAC. What are these "sponsoring" organizations doing in return for credit and free publicity?
