As it stands right now, only a limited number of players have come out for McKinney football. Principal John Gudgel is concerned that they will not have enough players to field a team and is holding a meeting next week to decide whether to cancel the season.
At risk of stating the obvious, this does not bode well for YSHS football down the line.
Update on 8/28: I heard yesterday that only two boys showed up for the McKinney tryouts.

Funny, I heard there were 23 McKinney students interested. The truth is probably lower, but certainly more than 2.
Why can't you just let football die it's own way, and not be so biased? You could make the same comments about many other sports and activities, and the lack of students. Football is important to many boys who do not have soccer skills or basketball skills or run fast enough for track. It is especially important to many special ed students. Check your facts about gate receipts and you will see which sport produces the money for the athletic budget. Why do we have to have the terrible rant about football? I suspect it's because you just don't like the game. The whole tone of the conversation is so disrespectful to the students who love it.
I love the game. It's a cop out to call me biased and disrespectful, not to mention a personal attack. As for the numbers, the article you are commenting on is one year old. There may be more McKinney students this year who were pressured into "showing interest." The varsity has 19 players on the roster for 2009. By anyone's standards, that is not enough.
Out of respect for the boys, I will not be doing a post on the score of last night's game.
