YS Arts Council Gallery
Sondy
Kai, native Daytonian artist & environmental activist, leads a Gallery Chat
followed by an Artist Demo focused on her creative work with rescued &
re-purposed plastic trash.
YSAC’s
Experience Saturday on December 8 (5-6:30pm) focuses on “Trash Fashion Art”
with a slide show and demo led by Kai, followed by a brainstorming session for
those interested in participating in a future trash fashion event. Sondy also invites you to stop by the YSAC
Community Gallery from 1-4pm during the YS Holiday Fest (December 8) to create
a festive ornament using “upcycled” plastic.
And, decorate Yellow Springs by leaving your ornament in the holiday
tree in front of Dino’s Cappuccinos.
Kai
uses original "guerilla" crochet techniques coupled with specially
crafted tools to create her "creatures" composed of post-consumer
plastic trash. The result is singular,
and environmentally-friendly. Join us in
appreciating "green" art!
Closing on December 9, Sondy’s “REINCARNATED: The NEW Forever Life of
Plastic Trash” exhibit is a testament to her artistic ingenuity and commitment
to raising environmental awareness. This
playful and thought-provoking show should not be missed.
Kai’s
current body of work was inspired
Hundreds of foil (and non-foil) bags later, she has become sequestered
in plastic trash in a crazy, unplanned sort of way. in 2009 when she noticed a particularly
colorful chip bag with foil interior and thought, “I’ll save a few of these and
make something….ya know….shiny and glitzy.”
The
Yellow Springs Arts Council's Experience Saturday series provides opportunities
to share in the talents of our local artists.
