The Art of Healing
YS Arts Council presents "The Art of Healing," a one-month gallery show with an opening reception at the YSAC Gallery, 309 Xenia Avenue, on Friday, March 18, 5:30-9 p.m. as part of the monthly Third Friday Fling.The exhibit features more than 30 regional artists and performers honoring the healing power of creative expression. Guest speaker and laughter therapist Joanne Augenstein will start the evening with "The Healing Benefits of Laughter" at 5:30 p.m. followed by music by Yellow Springs Strings, directed by Shirley Mullins. A fundraiser will accompany the show with raffled artwork by esteemed artists such as Corrine Bayraktaroglu, Tom Watson III, and Libby Rudolf, and services by wellness practitioners. The reception is free and open to the public and kicks off the YSAC Experience Wellness Weekend.

Quartet in residence
Thanks to a grant from the Ohio Arts Council and support from Chamber Music Yellow Springs, the La Catrina Quartet will spend the week of March 14 in a mini-residency in and around Yellow Springs.- Outreach performance for the Dayton Latino Chamber of Commerce at Sinclair College

Home Energy Savings Meeting
The Yellow Springs Energy Board hosted a meeting Saturday afternoon in the Glen Building to report on a joint project with Community Solutions, University of Dayton and 2 for 1 Energy. Residents who volunteered to participate in a "home energy savings" analysis received their personalized report and heard proposals for the next phase of the study.Anonymous reader submission.

As Chief Marketing Strategist for Penny / Ohlmann / Neiman in Dayton, David uses his knowledge of business strategy, passion for creative expression, and skills of communication to help people achieve the remarkable. He believes that Marketing is both art and science - using the uniquely human gifts of creativity and analytical thinking to deliver something of value to our world. It is his philosophy that great marketing is about examining society, understanding the dynamic wants and needs of human beings, gauging strengths and weaknesses, consistently building trust, and crafting stories that resonate deep within people's hearts and minds. David attended college at Wright State University and University of Dayton.

Future of Education series continues today
Adam Howard, Former Antioch Assoc. Dean, to Deliver Talk in Education Series
The Future of Education series, a collaboration between Antioch College and the Yellow Springs Schools, continues on Saturday, March 12, 3:00-5:00 p.m., with a presentation by Adam Howard, a Colby College associate professor of education and former Antioch associate dean of faculty.
Prior to joining the faculty at Colby, Howard taught at Hanover College, Lesley University Graduate School of Education, and Antioch College. At Antioch he was also a co-op professor, director of teacher education and associate dean of faculty.
Prior to teaching at the college level, Howard taught high school English and history at Cincinnati Country Day School and directed Summerbridge Cincinnati Inc., a nonprofit organization designed to provide academic support to disadvantaged middle school students while encouraging high school and college students to consider a teaching career path.
Howard has published numerous articles and papers on social class issues in education, privilege, service-learning, and curriculum theory. He is co-editor (with Hongyu Wang, Oklahoma State University) of the Journal of Curriculum Theorizing, an interdisciplinary journal of curriculum studies. He chairs the Bergamo Conference on Curriculum Theory and Classroom Practice and is a member of the board of directors of the Corporation for Curriculum Research. He is co-editor (with Rubén Gaztambide-Fernández) of Educating Elites: Class Privilege and Educational Advantage and author of Learning Privilege: Lessons of Power and Identity in Affluent Schooling.
The series has featured MacArthur Genius Award winner Deborah Meier '66, Collegiate Institute assistant principal Shadia Alvarez '96, Miami University's associate vice president for academic affairs, Michael E. Dantley, and Antioch College President Mark Roosevelt.
The Future of Education, a partnership between the Morgan Fellows at Antioch College and the Yellow Springs schools to stimulate new and innovative thinking about the future of education in Yellow Springs. The series is a major component of the Class of 2020 Initiative, a process to create a strategic plan for the public schools.
