Hoppers
The Hoppers will be playing their brand of 50’s and 60’s rock n’ roll at a Party/Dance sponsored by and benefiting The Antioch School on Saturday, April 9th from 7 to 10 pm at the Bryan Center gym in Yellow Springs. This is a family event so all are welcome.
Suggested donation: $9 for adults, $4 students & children, kids under 4 free
Punch and snacks provided.
Wine, beer, gourmet treats, & desserts available for a donation
No need to bring anything except $ and dancing shoes!

Threshold Singers of Yellow Springs
When you or someone you love is at one of life's thresholds: struggling with life, critically ill, or nearing the end of life...
Soothing songs sung quietly at the bedside will often bring great comfort and ease.
As members of the Threshold Singers of Yellow Springs, we are known for our gentle, compassionate voices and our unique, non-denominational repertoire of a cappella songs.
A small group (2-3) of our volunteer women will come sing quietly at the bedside for a comfortable length of time (perhaps 20-30 minutes)in hospitals, nursing homes, and private homes.
We are sensitive to the physical and emotional needs of the individual and always respect the desire for privacy and family time.
We share our songs and compassion with all those who may be present at the bedside.
We invite you to call to arrange a visit.

Slowhand
The Clifton Opera House is in for a very special treat on Saturday, April 9th. Dayton's own Slowhand Band will perform a special Acoustic night of Clapton music from 7:30pm - 9:30pm. Box office opens at 6:30pm. Everyone has at least one favorite Eric Clapton song and Rick Bailey does them all! He looks and sounds like Clapton!
Slowhand was formed in 1994 in Fairborn, Ohio. The name of the group came from the 1977 album Slowhand, and is also the nickname made famous by Eric Clapton. Rick Bailey, who performs the role of Eric Clapton as Lead Guitarist/Lead Vocalist, has long been influenced by Eric Clapton. This passion led to the formation of Slowhand.
Seeking out a musical group to establish this Eric Clapton Tribute, Rick recruited four outstanding musicians who could also provide the harmony vocals to make this show sound authentic. These musicians consist of Ray on Keyboards & Vocals, Daniel on Guitar & Vocals, Kevin on Drums, Percussion & Vocals, and Don on Bass Guitar & Vocals.
From the look, the specially painted guitars, to the entertaining song selection, every detail is covered in this family friendly show. As quoted by fans, the only thing missing is the cigarette! Solidarity Day Rally, Monday, April 4th

Local community members will be holding a We Are One Solidarity Vigil on Monday April 4 from 4:30 to 6:00 on Xenia Ave. @ Dayton St in Yellow Springs.
This solidarity vigil is in support of a broad based coalition lead by the national AFL-CIO, church, environmental, human rights and community groups on the anniversary of the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King in 1968, while he was supporting the rights of sanitation workers to organize. This event will be part of an expected hundred plus similar events being organized around country, and is part of rallies Tues through Thursday @ the Capitol in Columbus, opposing efforts (SB5) to end state and local workers' rights to organize to maintain a middle class life.

Antioch Writers' Workshop and Books & Co are offering the next free Second Sunday Free Writers' Workshop on April 10, 2:00-3:30 p.m. at Books & Co at The Greene. The topic will be "Poetry Writing Techniques for Poets, Fiction Writers and All Kinds of Writers!" presented by prose poet Jamey Dunham.
Jamey Dunham's award-winning prose poems have been published widely and appear in several anthologies including The Best American Poetry 2005 (Scribner, 2005). Jamey's poetry collection The Bible of Lost Pets (Salt Modern Poets, 2009) was the inaugural winner of the Crashaw Prize. He is also the Co-Editor of the textbook anthology An Introduction to the Prose Poem (Firewheel Editions, 2009). Jamey is an Associate Professor of English at Sinclair Community College in Dayton, Ohio.
Dunham offers these three quick tips to writers:

- If you feel you need publication to validate yourself as a writer, you will probably never find the validation you're looking for. Still, anyone can and will be published if they keep at it. It's simple, keep writing and never give up on yourself. If you write good work, it will find a home eventually.
- Remember that contests, like publishing, are different animals from writing. Writing is art and what truly matters. Success in contests and publishing relies upon others and their own subjective decisions. Do not confuse success with talent.
- Find your own voice first and foremost; however, if you are unwilling or unable to do so, steal your voice from the very best you can find. There is no excuse for plagiarizing mediocrity, swing for the fences!

Outdoor Farmers Market getting started today
The outdoor Farmers Market is starting up this weekend. Several of the regular King’s Yard market vendor’s will be setting up there this Saturday - Dale Filburn will be there with his meats, the Bison meat, Anderson’s Pork, Peach Mountain, Flying Mouse Farm, the Homesick Chef and others.

Last day of Winter Farmers Market, Saturday
April 2nd will be the last Saturday for the Winter Farmers Market. This is a transition day as vendors start thinking about the summer market. Some vendors will be inside at the Methodist Church and some will be outside in the King’s Yard parking lot. Thanks to everyone who supported the Winter Market this year – we had 15 participating vendors and averaged about 170 visitors each market day. We hope to be back next year.

YS teens among group arrested at 4-H camp
Channel Seven reported last night that a large group of teens was arrested at the Clifton 4-H camp on Friday night for "trespassing, underage possession or consumption of alcohol and inducing panic." According to the piece, some of those arrested were from Yellow Springs.
